FROM US, TO YOU!

HAPPY WINTER BREAK FROM THE

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO

STUDENT AMBASSADORS!!!

Ready to Cruise!

For posting on 12/14/2012

Good Morning-

The semester has officially ended! This past week was full of studying and finals. Two weeks ago consisted of ton of studying to get ready for those final grade helpers (Finals)! I got to register this past couple of weeks, it’s always fun trying to find classes that interest you and will fit into your schedule. Student Ambassadors has also ended for the semester.  We had our Holiday Party which was such a blast! We did a white elephant exchange, ate spaghetti and other amazing food! I'm ready for winter break to go and enjoy my cruise to the Carribean.

Last week was the Funeral for Cold Spring Officer Thomas "Tommy" Decker and it was the sixth Law Enforcement funeral that I have attended. It was so sad to see a young officer die in the line of duty. It was really cool to see all the different officers again form different counties, states, cities and countries.

Also, last week I got to work the K102 St. Judes 20th Anniversity Radiothon. It’s so interesting to work to see all the support that they receive. There are so many cool things that they give out like fly away trips to the CMA Awards, the iHeart Radio Festivals and many more!

Thanks everyone for reading my blog and will talk to you next semester.

Cristen's Countdown to Graduation!

Hey Bloggers!

I can’t believe I am writing my last blog ever!  Last Tuesday was my last meeting serving as Ambassador president.  However, I’m very happy to be handing my position over to Jeni Carmody (our former Vice President) for the next year; she’ll do amazing!  For our last meeting all of the Ambassadors got together and had an ugly sweater Christmas party.  We had spaghetti and some delicious desserts!

The Christmas party got me really excited for Christmas break!  I just finished my last week of classes and now I just have to make it through finals.  I only have three and they are pretty spread out throughout the week so I’m not too worried.  It will be so nice to be on break and have a little more time to relax and hangout with friends.  I don’t have any big plans for break but I think I might go skiing and I’ll definitely be hanging out at the rock wall more often!  It’s weird to think that once break is over I’ll be starting my last semester of college here at MSU.  It’s such a mix of emotions but I can’t wait!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and it’s been a great experience blogging to you all this semester!

~Cristen

It's That Time Again!

Hey Bloggers,

Well this is it; Finals week.  The week that begins as the most stressful and ends with shouts of joy- At least that’s what happens in my case.  I have three finals to study for, two of which are comprehensive.  I started studying last Wednesday, so hopefully by the time of the tests I’ll feel a bit more prepared.  Other than the tests, there isn’t really anything else left to do for the semester except study.  That is the one upside to finals week!

We also recently had our student ambassador Christmas party, where the executive team made spaghetti for everyone.  It was a lot of fun and a good end to a good semester of tour giving! (Picture included and yes that is me with the awesome sweater vest and shades)  I’m excited to go home for winter break and see everyone.  I haven’t been to the Holidazzle Parade in a long time so we are going to find time to do that! We still don’t have too much snow, but that is just fine with me! Have a good week!!

Jeni Takes on Finals Week!

Hey Everybody!

Well the end of the semester is finally here! It is finals week and it’s a full of exams and studying. The nice thing about finals week is that they rearrange the whole university schedule so you may not even have to have finals every day of the week. This year I have a final in every single one of my classes, meaning I have 5 finals total. I am counting down the hours until I am completed with all of them!

Other than finals and studying I have been doing some other fun activities too. This year the MSU football team has been doing very well! I went to the first round of the championship game when we played against Missouri and we won! It was so much fun! That night I went with Kira to get our picture taken with Santa on campus. We plan on enlarging the picture and hanging it in our new apartment! : )

I have also been busy studying for my certification exam for pharmacy technicians. I plan on taking it over winter break so hopefully all will go as planned! I am taking the exam with two other girls I work with so I am hoping we will all pass. I have also been busy researching pharmacy schools and making sure I have all of my pre requisite courses completed.

Well that is all for now! Look for me next semester when we are back in school and blogging starts up again! Happy Holidays!! : )

Kayla+Finals Week= Retail Therapy! =)

Bloggers!

Finals week has arrived and not only does this mean I will be busy with exams, but the end of the semester is here. I cannot believe how fast this fall term has flown by, it seems like just yesterday I was receiving all of my instruments and supplies, and feeling overwhelmed by all of the things I would be learning within my program. Although it may seem like a stressful time, because I have been taking numerous exams and spending an abundance of time studying throughout this semester, I believe that finals will go very well this year. I have already taken two out of six finals, one of them last Friday and one this morning.

Aside from exams, after this week is over I am driving up to the cities for the weekend to spend time with my boyfriend and his family and taking a trip to Mall of America for a little retail therapy! I will be working at the Admissions Office over winter break to earn some extra spending money as well. During my break, I have signed a contract with the Department of Dental Hygiene, in which I have promised to study and practice with my instruments during the month we have off of school. It may seem boring and unnatural to have homework over break, but this extra practice will assist me when I start clinic in the spring. I will finally be able to clean patients’ teeth and utilize skills that I will use for the rest of my career as a Dental Hygienist!

Other plans that I have for my month break are spending some extra time with my family. My brother is able to travel home to Wisconsin from where he is stationed in California for Christmas; it will be exciting to see him again! I also intend to finally go snowboarding here in Mankato; we have a ski hill called Mount Kato and I may pay a visit to Trollhaugen ski resort back in Wisconsin where my parents live. Either way, whatever I do over winter break will be relaxing.

I want to thank you all for reading my blog this semester, I will return in January to tell you all about my break and how my clinical experiences go. Have a safe and Happy Holiday season and I will see you all again in a month!
Our “Family” Christmas card, this should bring some laughs to my family and friends! (Anthony, Bella the cat and I)

Cruise'n Along!

For Post 11/30/2012

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday last week! It was really nice to have a couple of days off before finals week. Finals week is coming up really quick and will be here before we know it. I get to register for spring semester this week so that will be really exciting to be finally half way done! I got another job working in admissions as a Student Outreach Caller, which has been a blast! We get to call prospective students interested in attending Minnesota State University, Mankato in the fall.

It’s just a little bit over a month until I get to go on my cruise and spend two days in Miami! This will be my second cruise which will be a blast! There are many different programs that students can attend through the university as study abroad programs. A lot of students like to attend the different universities in Australia. To look at different study abroad programs and more information go to:  http://www.mnsu.edu/kearneyic/

Thanks everyone and have a great week!!

Surviving Black Friday Frenzy!

Hey Bloggers!

What a crazy weekend I’ve had, but I’m happy to say I’m done for the week (yay to not having class on Thursday or Friday and always having four day weekends!)  I’m so excited for the weekend because my friends from home are coming to visit.  They picked the perfect weekend to come because on Saturday the Mavericks are playing Missouri Western State in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II football championship.  So far our team has had undefeated season so we’ll all be there to cheer them on this weekend in hopes of continuing their outstanding season!

Being home last week for Thanksgiving was great!  Being back in Wisconsin with friends and family was exactly what I needed.  As much as I love all of the turkey, mashed potatoes, and pie on Thanksgiving, I have to say I was a little more excited for Black Friday shopping.  It has been a tradition of mine to tough out the cold and go shopping extremely early with my friends.  I’m happy to say we survived the crazy shoppers and endless lines.  I scored a ton of great deals and even got ALL of my Christmas shopping done, but I have to say my best find was my new chalk bag.  I’ve been telling all of you about my newest hobby – rock climbing – and it was about time I got my own bag of chalk.  Take a look at the picture of it (I’m pretty excited about it haha)!  I hope you all have a great week. Only a few more weeks until winter break, hang in there everybody!

~Cristen

Birthday Finals?... Oh No!

Hey Hey!

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! My family didn’t really do much, just stuck around the house and did Thanksgiving by ourselves this year.  I did get to hang out with an old friend who I used to live by. We went back to our old houses and got to check them out for the first time in a while. Christmas is already coming up on us so fast, but thankfully I finished all my shopping already!

The atmosphere around campus is becoming more and more stressful seeing that finals week is just around the corner.  Thankfully I just have a few projects to finish up and hand in before I can start studying for my three finals.  Unfortunately, two of them fall on my birthday, which is slightly depressing, but I’ll get over it!  Getting excited to go home and see all my extended family over the holidays! Have a good week!

Thanksgiving Cheer!

Hey Everybody!

This past week has been crazy! I got to go home over Thanksgiving for a couple of days and I see my family. I was so excited to see them! We had lots of family time together and we played games and other fun things! It was nice to have a break from school and not focus on work and studying so much. Now that Thanksgiving is over though it is time to get back into the swing of things.

I have several exams and assignments due this week so I have been focusing a lot of time and energy into that. I even have to write a 3 page paper all in Spanish! It’s hard, but fun at the same time! I have also been spending quite a bit of time in the library studying with other students from my classes. I find it important to study in groups because it is nice to hear things from another person’s perspective. Hearing different views often helps me formulate my own ideas and it is more fun to study that way.

I also have some other big news! I was recently elected as the new president of student ambassadors, our volunteer tour guide group. I am so excited! I have so many fun ideas planned for the upcoming year and I cannot wait to put them into action. I also signed my lease for my apartment next year. I am living with a fellow tour guide named Kira. We signed a lease to live in a brand new set of apartments that are currently being built! Stay tuned for future pictures of my crib!

That’s all for now!

-Jeni

Oh Brother! =)

Hollo Bloggers!

I hope everyone enjoyed their long Thanksgiving weekend! I was finally able to go home and have some time to relax with my family. The weekend was extra special because my brother was able to leave Virginia (where he is attending training for the US Marines) and spend time with us from Wednesday to Sunday. Our Thanksgiving dinner was held at my parent's house this year; we only had my dad's side of the family over. Even though it was smaller than past years, it felt great to reconnect with family I had not seen in a while. On Friday I celebrated my 22nd birthday! I did not do anything too exciting but my grandma took me to get a manicure and pedicure, and I went out to dinner and went bowling with my parents, brother, his fiancé and my boyfriend.

On Saturday morning I woke up at 5 a.m. and went deer hunting with my brother and dad, it has been a family tradition so I am glad my brother was back to go with us! Of course, the weekend could not last forever, so on Sunday at 4am, we woke up and drove to the airport to drop off my brother and I drove back to Mankato to finish up homework for the week. I cannot believe the semester is almost over, only two and a half more weeks until winter break!

Cruise'n Along!

Hey Everyone-

Things at MSU are going so great! In the Admissions office we have seen so many people this last month, it’s crazy here!! It’s so good to see other people interested in attending MSU! My classes are going really well, I have been using the library a lot more now because of finals are right around the corner. My horseback riding class just ended last week, so I have one of the six done. I can’t believe that we were jumping horses, it was so much fun.

Now the journey to look for someplace to live next year is a challenge with my schedule but it’s nice to look at different places around Mankato. I got some really good news this past week that I'm going to be going on another cruise over winter break! We will be leaving Minneapolis on the 3rd of January and will be back on the 13th of January. We are going to spend two days in Miami, Florida before the cruise! We are going to be ported in Grand Turk, Dominican Republic, Aruba and the Curacao. I'm so excited!! I have a couple of pictures below from my last cruise in May.

Have a great weekend!
Nick

Vertical Endeavors Anyone?

Hey Bloggers!

I hope you are all having a wonderful week.  I have, but it’s definitely been a busy one as well.  On Monday, some of the other Ambassadors and myself had dinner at Director of Admissions Brian Jones’ house.  The dinner was so great, and we elected our new board members for next semester.  I am proud to say that Jeni Carmody, our current vice president, will be taking my spot as president; she’s going to do an outstanding job!

School has been pretty stress free lately; I haven’t had a test in a while so it’s been nice to have some relaxation time.  I’ve been doing a lot of rock climbing in my off time.  This weekend I am actually driving up to the cities and going climbing at Vertical Endeavors, it’s a climbing gym up in the cities.  I’m getting excited for a short week next week because of Thanksgiving!  I’m so excited to get back to Wisconsin and see my family and friends, and of course to eat all of the AMAZING food!  I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is Coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 Bloggers!

Hope you are all having a great week, they are going by pretty fast and Thanksgiving is coming up fast! Not only do I get to see family that I don’t get to see very often, but the food is always endless.  I can’t believe it’s only a week and a half away!  Thankfully I’m basically done with tests until finals week, which is a relief.  I do have a research paper to write but that shouldn’t be too bad because the library journal databases are extremely easy to use.  We also have elections for student ambassadors coming up so I’m hoping to get re-elected so I can continue blogging for you all!

My friends and I are starting to look at where we want to live next year, so we are going to see a few different apartment complexes on Friday and hopefully soon after we will be able to sign a lease so we can stop worrying about that! I am also getting a new car in the spring since my sister is turning 16, so I think I am going to start looking for a car pretty soon.  I am much more excited about that than my wallet is. Have a good week!

Tis the Season!

Hey Everyone!

The semester is past the halfway point! That means things are getting hectic and there is a lot to be done. I have lots of projects and assignments coming up so I have been spending quite a bit of time in the library. But November also means it is almost Thanksgiving! I love the holidays because I love to spend time with my family. I hardly ever get to go home anymore so I very rarely see my parents, plus my two oldest brothers live in Wisconsin and South Dakota so I never see them. I cherish my time with family.
Other than assignments and school work I have been taking some time to relax. I love to go out and do different activities in Mankato but sometimes I like to just sit at home and hang out. This past weekend my roommate and I spent time at home watching movies and Skyping with one of our friends that doesn’t live in Mankato. It was nice to take a break from school and just have time to relax. Check the pic of my roomie, Jenny, and I goofing around with her webcam. That’s all for now!

Practice Makes Perfect! Kayla's Blog

Hey All!

Not much has changed since I last blogged, just working and going to school as always. In my clinical class for dental hygiene, we have been learning how to use more instruments in preparation for our very first patient in three weeks! I am very nervous, but excited to finally be applying what I have been learning in school for my clinical experience. Aside from school, my parents came to visit me last weekend and we did a little shopping and went out to dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings. They bought my birthday present a few weeks early, a new North Face Jacket! I have always wanted one and it keeps me nice and warm on the walks from my apartment to class every morning. I am looking forward to this weekend, I get to go home and go deer hunting in Wisconsin with my family and then the week after is Thanksgiving and my BIRTHDAY. It is on Black Friday this year so I will get to go do some more shopping.

That's all for now!

Keeping Busy!

Hello!

We are getting busy at the Admission's Office, we had several Fall Open Houses these past couple of weeks! It’s great to see tons of prospective students touring our University. It's always nice to see people interested in a college that I love! We have about another month or so until the end of the semester, this semester had gone by so fast! My classes are going really well and they are a lot of fun! I really enjoy my major because all the professors are former Law Enforcement Officers and they get to share real life experiences.

We went dog walking last week for Student Ambassadors, we had one dog for 10 of us! Her name was Annie and she was huge, but she didn’t like other dogs or cats. We had so much fun just bonding with the ambassadors that showed up. It was nice to get to know the new ambassadors while being in the group for a while, it is really great to see others that are involved!

I also worked the Mankato Marathon as medical support. It was so much fun seeing thousands of runners out on the course. I worked at the Finish Line and we only saw 41 patients which is amazing compared to how many runners and not one made it to the ER so good job guys!

Thanks for reading my blog and Have an amazing weekend!

Dia de los Muertos & More!

Hey Bloggers!

I hope you have all been having a great week!  I definitely have, especially because yesterday was Halloween… one of my favorite holidays.  My friends and I decided to dress up as skeletons for Dia de los Muertos, a holiday celebrated to remember the dead in Mexico.  Being a Spanish major I’ve learned a lot about this holiday and when I saw the idea I knew it would be the perfect costume!  The school actually had a haunted house for Halloween as well; it was in the CSU and I heard it was a huge hit!  Unfortunately I had night class so I couldn’t attend.

My classes have been going great.  I just got done with a week full of tests so I’m excited to take a relaxing weekend at home.  Next week I’ll have a lighter workload so I’m hoping to go rock climbing a few times; it’s one of my new favorite hobbies!  I hope you all have a great week!

Bye Bye Hot, Hello Cold!

Hey Bloggers!

This past weekend we finally made it to a three-day weekend!  Mid-terms are finally over so everyone is taking a sigh of relief and then settling in for a good power nap.  October flew by, and we saw our first snowflakes of the year last week.  Unfortunately we have seen the last of the 70 degree days, and winter is fast approaching.  On the plus side, there is less than a month left until Thanksgiving, and there will be no complaints about that!

I’ve had two tests and three quizzes in the last two weeks, and another test coming up this week.  There has been a lot of studying, and when I’m not doing that, I’ve been working with my group to build a website for a class.  It was very time consuming but we finally got that done which was a huge relief.  Some friends and I are trying to decide where to live next year and who else to live with.  There are a lot of apartment complexes near campus so there are a lot to choose from.  Have a good week and stay warm!

Smooth Sailing Through the Week

Hey Everybody!

Last week was a short week and we didn’t have classes on Friday! It was nice to have a little break from school and to have some time to sleep in. My week so far has been pretty relaxed and I have gotten ahead on some assignments so I have less to worry about next week. I also helped out with the admitted student open houses. I was on student panel and gave a couple of tours, so if you came down for a visit you may have seen me. J

Other than work and school I also did some fun activities. My mom and grandma came to visit and celebrate my birthday with me last weekend. We went out to eat and my mom got me a Matt Kalil jersey, I have got to support my Vikings! It was nice to see my family since I don’t get to go home very often anymore.

Until next time,
Jeni

Trick-or-Treat

Hey Everyone-

I hope everyone is having a great start to the fall and winter season, here at MSU it has been rainy and gloomy for the past week. I hope it gets colder soon and turns to snow! School been going well this semester; although the Dental Hygiene program is challenging, I have been studying every day and staying on track in all of my classes. We have been learning how to use our instruments and have been practicing on our tooth models as well as actual mouths (see my picture below!). It is so exciting to be applying information I will use for the rest of my career. This week I am dressing up for Halloween and Trick-Or-Treating with my friend and her daughter who is dressing up as a lady bug! This week I have very little going on and it will be nice to find some time to relax before next week's exams.

Until next time,

Kayla

Hope to See You Here!

Good Day!

I hope everyone had a fantastic week! Last week was mid-terms for us! I can't believe this semester is already half over. Classes are going really good, I have some really fun classes like Health, Campaigns and Elections. We had the Congressional first district debate last week here at MSU, it was my first debate that I have attended and it was really interesting to see.

We have many different events that are going on this week for the Admissions Office. We had two Open House events, and a Saturday Preview Day tomorrow. I hope to see you there this weekend! The Mankato Marathon is also this Sunday!! It should be a busy weekend!! We also had the National College Fair at the Minneapolis Convention Center. It was a great hit!! I hope you stopped by at talked to some of the different offices on our campus. Well, I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!

Thanks,

 Nick B.

Keeping Busy!

Hey Bloggers!

Hope all of your weeks have been going well!  All is going well here in Mankato.  Last week my volleyball and soccer intramural teams won our games!  We have one game left in each before we go to the play offs; I think this year we actually have a chance at winning the championship t-shirts!

Other than school I’ve been busy finishing up my applications for grad school and I just made my first payment for my medical brigade trip to Honduras.  I went last year and it was such a rewarding experience that I had to go again this year!  If any of you guys are interested in the health field, you should definitely considering going on a medical brigade once you are in college, because you get an amazing hands on experience and have the opportunity to see another culture.
Have a great rest of the week!

Watch Out World, I'm 22 Now!

Hey Everybody!

It is midterm time at MSU and that means lots of exams, presentations, and papers. I have been studying a lot and focusing on getting my assignments done sooner rather than later. I tend to procrastinate and then do everything at once so it’s important for me to space my assignments out and get things done in a timely manner. Other than studying I have done a couple of fun things too!
Last week was the National College Fair in Minneapolis. I got to attend as a student representative and talk to all sorts of prospective students and let them know all the great things about MSU. It was so much fun! Check out the picture of Kayla and I below  Last week was also my birthday! I turned 22 and went out to eat with some friends. It was fun and nice to take a break from focusing on school for a while. Well that’s all for now!

Jeni

Huzzah!!... That Should Get Your Attention =)

Hey!

The temperatures are starting to drop, and I am not a fan.  We haven’t had snow yet, but it probably won’t be too long, at which point my mood plummets.  Besides the weather, I’ve had a pretty good week.  My group and I in one of my classes had to give a pitch on why the class shouldn’t have to take a competency exam, in front of a lecture hall full of people.  The professor of course waited to tell us his decision until the end of class, but it all worked out and now we don’t have to take the test!'

Last Tuesday, I went with a few other Student Ambassadors to the National College Fair in Minneapolis.  It is the largest college fair in the nation, and approximately 25,000 students were expected to attend!  I drove up with the other ambassadors, had a lot of fun, and got to interact with many perspective students!  Hope you are enjoying this weather more than I am!

SURPRISE!

Hey Bloggers,

Last week was a busy one for me. I had an exam every day in school and also attended the National College Fair! I had never been to the college fair before but it was exciting to meet new prospective students and answer their questions about our university through my very own perspective. On Friday, I went home to Wisconsin to see my family and attend my cousin's baby shower on Saturday.
Then I drove back to Mankato Saturday and threw a surprise party for my best friend! I made her a cake and homemade picture frame as a gift and invited some of our closest friends. I then spent the rest of my weekend studying for my two exams this week, thank goodness I will be able to find some time to relax and maybe go Minneopa State Park, it’s a really scenic park here in Mankato that is great for hiking. The park even has its own waterfall!

Nick's Advice on Getting Involved

Hey Everyone!!

I hope your week is going well! Last week was Homecoming for us, so it was really busy. Classes are getting really crazy; I had two major tests this week, so I had some serious study sessions!

Here is some important information I found helpful and would like to share with you:
There are over 280 Recognized Student Organizations to join at MSU. There are academic groups, major specific clubs, religious organizations, Greek life, IMPACT team and many more. Joining a club is a great way to make a lot of new friends including lifelong contacts.

I'm involved with Student Ambassadors, which is a group of students that give tours for special events, student panels, and other events that have to do with prospective student events. It’s really a great organization to join and there are a lot of great perks! Thanks and have a great weekend.

Cristen's Best Week EVER!

Hey Bloggers!

Last week was homecoming and I don’t even know where to begin!  There was so much going on around campus; it was incredibly hard to choose what to do.  Some of my favorite homecoming events included the Eric Hutchinson concert, the football game, and watching some of the events like the cake eating contest.  I also got to go to the Eric Church and Nick Luebke concerts last week… It is definitely going to be a hard week to top!

Now it’s time to get back in the swing of things because I have three test this week.  It’s slightly overwhelming but it is nice to get them all done in one week and then have a few easier weeks after.  Well it’s back to the books for me, have a great week everyone!

~Cristen

Is it Thanksgiving Yet? (Jake's Blog)

Hi Everyone,

Last week was Homecoming week in Mankato, which meant lots of fun activities and people to be around! I started the week off right by going to our Homecoming concert, which was Eric Hutchinson this year.  Eric Church also had a concert that Thursday night at the Verizon Wireless Center downtown.  There were other activities all week as well, including a lip syncing contest, a university sponsored block party, and a parade before the football game Saturday.  The atmosphere around campus was awesome as everyone is prepared for the football game.

Even with all the events that took place, schoolwork is still the number one priority.  I had two big tests to study for, plus a rather large quiz.  Hard to believe we’ve already been here for over a month, and I’m already looking forward to Thanksgiving!  Hope you all have a good week!

Wish Me Luck! (Jeni's Blog)

Hey Everyone!

This week was a busy one at MSU! It was Homecoming and there were all sorts of fun events going on. Homecoming week is great because there is always something to do and there are so many activities to take part in! This year I went to the parade and the football game. Check out the picture of me and my friends Kayla and Tori below. I also love Homecoming because it shows how much pride our school has. Everywhere you look you see purple and gold!

I also have been studying and preparing for the certification test for pharmacy technicians. I am hoping to take it over Christmas break. It is really important to me because it is the field I plan on going into. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Until next time!

Hooray for Homecoming 2012!

Hey Everyone-

This past week was MSU’s homecoming week. It was filled with many fun events and activities for students. I attended the Eric Hutchinson concert on Monday and went to the lip sync on Thursday evening. A bunch of student organizations came up with dance routines in attempt to win the competition. On Saturday I was in the parade for Student American Dental Hygiene Association and handed out toothpaste rather than candy to members of the crowd.

After the parade I went to the Mavericks football game against Concordia, MSU won and it was an exciting time to see all of the students in purple and gold cheering for our team! This week I will be studying and doing a lot of school work, I have multiple exams and quizzes in my classes that I need to prepare for.

Until next time,
Kayla

Homecoming is Coming!

Hey Readers and Future Mavericks,

School has been off to an exciting start. As you may know this is my first semester in the Dental Hygiene program here at MSU! I have had many exams and quizzes within these first four weeks, but I love the high energy and the challenge it gives me. Aside from class, I am working in the Admissions Office again this year and every afternoon I help complete paperwork and do various office tasks.

When I am not in class or working, I spend my free time working out and seeing my friends. Although school is important, it is crucial to maintain some free time away from studying to relieve stress! This week it will be Homecoming time on campus. This is one of the biggest events of the year, filled with a week of food eating contests, scavenger hunts, free food, prizes and of course, the football game on Saturday the 29th! If you are around Mankato this weekend stop by for the game, it will be a fun and exciting time.

For Now-

Nick's Summer Travels

Hey Everyone-

I hope everybody’s week went great! We are back in school again, and it’s nice to be back. I'm taking 18 credits this semester! A lot of the courses I am taking general education classes. I'm also taking Horseback riding again and it is such a fun class!! I took my first exam last week and it seemed so weird that I had one so quickly!

My summer went by so fast! I went on a cruise, worked at a water park, and worked at the Minnesota State Fair! It was such a great summer!!! The cruise I went on was probably one of the highlights of summer. It was a class I took my spring semester that was lecture based then, we went on the cruise after the end of the school year. We traveled to Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and Key West. I hope you guys have a great week!

Catching Up with Cristen

Hey Bloggers!

Well school is officially back in full swing.  Four weeks in and I’ve already had two tests!  So far I’m enjoying all of my classes and all of my professors are pretty cool.  My favorite class by far is rock climbing. It’s definitely one of the best classes I’ve taken in college.

What I am most excited for is homecoming though! It’s only a week away and it’s definitely one of my favorite weeks of the year.  Eric Hutchinson is coming to Mankato this year too!  I hope you all have a great weekend!

From Hawaii to Mankato

Welcome to a new school year here at MSU Mankato!!

We’re already four weeks into the year and it is going great! The weather has stayed warm for the most part and classes are going well.  It’s been great getting to see all my old friends again and making more in the process.  I decided to live in the residence halls again this year because it is easier in many respects and closer to class. I started working in the admissions office this year, which has been fun so far and I’m looking forward to continuing with that.

This summer I went to Hawaii with my family which was a lot of fun!  We went surfing, snorkeling, and spent a lot of time on the beach.  I also spent a lot of time working at a golf course.  It is pretty easy work, and I love the people I work with.  Since we get free golf, I played a few times a week and had a lot of fun.  Hope you all are having a good start to the school year!

Bye Bye Summer, Hello Busy!

Hey Everybody!

This summer was fun. I spent a lot of time in summer class and at work, but I made time for some fun activities as well. I traveled to Wisconsin with my family for a wedding. Packing 6 people into a truck for 5 hours wasn’t exactly great fun but it made for some great family bonding time! I also went to see Thompson Square and Smashmouth in concert! Thompson Square was my first concert and it was great!

Now that summer is over and classes are back in session I am just as busy as ever. So far I have been focusing my attention on classes, joining new student organizations, and recruiting new tour guides. It seems like a lot but I enjoy being busy. Well that’s all for now!

Kayla's Here Back Too!

(photo from left to right, my brother Cody, mother Lori and Myself)

Hey Everyone!

My name is Kayla and I am a senior here at MSU-Mankato. I am studying Dental Hygiene and also have a minor in Psychology. This summer I spent the majority of my time working through the Office of New Student and Family Programs in which I assisted with new student Orientation! It was a great experience and I got to know some pretty awesome people. I also worked through the Office of Residential life to prepare the new residence halls for new students to move in and I also worked for Vikings Training camp here on our campus. The highlight of my summer consisted of a trip this past weekend to San Diego, California to watch my younger brother graduate from basic training for the United States Marines. It was a short trip but I finally was able to swim in the Pacific Ocean (check out the picture)!

Check back soon for more blog posts by myself and other awesome Student Ambassadors!

Hello Again Cristen!

Cristen (middle) with friends in Minneapolis

Cristen (bottom middle) and friends

Hey Bloggers!

I hope you all had a great summer!  My name is Cristen and I am a senior at Minnesota State University Mankato this year.  I am studying Biology and Spanish and have plans to go to Physician Assistant School next year.  This was the first summer I ever spent down in Mankato and I had a blast.  I started off my summer by taking two summer classes, Biochemistry and Medical Terminology.  Summer classes were definitely a different experience than taking classes during the year, but I’m happy I have them out of the way now.

Other than classes, my summer consisted of a lot of days spent at the pool and hanging out with my friends, playing beach volleyball, going on bike rides, and a lot of grilling out.  My friends and I took a few trips to do big activities as well. My roommates and I went to the Minnesota Zoo one weekend, and another weekend my friends and I participated in Challenge Nation’s scavenger hunt in Minneapolis.  The scavenger hunt had our team running around downtown Minneapolis.  We were given clues and we had to go find certain places and take pictures in front of them.  Our team ended up doing a lot better than we thought and we placed 22nd out of 100 teams, qualifying our team for the national competition in New Orleans!

All in all it was a great summer however; it’s time to get back to the books.  This is my senior year so it is very bittersweet.  I am so excited to be taking my final classes here at MSU, but I’m sad that I will be leaving Mankato and all of my friends in a year.  I just sent all of my graduate school applications off to 13 schools so I’m waiting to hear back from the different programs.  This is going to be a great year and I am so excited to share it with all of you bloggers!

Have a Great Summer: Nick's Farewell

Hello Blog Readers-

I hope everyone is having a great week, I know I'm having a pretty good one!! We just finished up finals week and I still can’t believe that my Freshman year of College is done. I'm all registered for next fall and
I can’t wait to start my sophomore year, then I'll be half way done with my degree!

My EMT class is all over with and I hope I pass the test at the end of May so I can start working on an ambulance to help out others. All my classes this semester have been a really good, but I'm glad that they are done because a couple of them were really hard.

My cruise is coming up really fast, just two weeks left and I can’t wait to experience this amazing trip. I'll be working at Bunker Beach this summer in the Concessions area. It will be interesting because I have never worked in either place before!!

CONGRATS to the new first year “Class of 2012”! Good luck with your first year of college this fall! It will be an amazing experience and you will enjoy every minute of it!!
Thanks everyone for reading my blogs this semester and I’ll talk to you guys next fall!!

(For posting on 4/19/12)

Hey Everyone-
I hope everyone is having an amazing week! The semester is coming to an end already and I can’t believe already that my first year of college is almost over. I'm getting ready to study really hard on these finals that are coming really soon. I took the EMT Test this past week but I will have to wait to see what my score will be, I hope I pass the test because it would be really amazing.

I am ready for summer to start and my cruise is on the 19th of May! I have never been on a cruise before and I'm super pumped for this adventure. I will be working at a waterpark for the summer, and hopefully applying for different EMT Positions.

I would also like to give everyone some information about two different services that we have on campus:
Security on campus works 24hrs a day and 365 days of the year! They have many great programs that you may use. They have the escort service which you either have to start or end on campus and one of the security officers will walk with you to that location, vehicle lock outs if you leave your keys in your car, and much more. They also respond to all emergency calls on campus like fire alarms, medicals (EMT Certification), and anything else you can think of.
We have a medical clinic on campus that has full time nurses and doctors who can help with any medical issues that may come up. There is also a pharmacy that can dispense any type of medication that you may need to take including over the counter (OTC) medications. If you would not like to go to the medical clinic or have an emergency you can go to Immanuel St .Joseph Hospital (Mayo Health System) which is a level 2 Trauma center with the Mayo One Medical Helicopter. Well that’s it for this now.
Thanks and have a great week!

Adios from Cristen!

Hey Bloggers!

YAY summer is finally here!  I finished all of my finals on yesterday and now it’s time to relax that is until I start summer classes.  I can’t believe this year is already over; it feels like I just moved into my apartment yesterday.  I haven’t been up to too much lately considering I’ve been studying for finals.  However, last week I got to take a quick break and go to the scholarship BBQ on campus.  The food was really good and it was great to catch up with everyone.  I ended up getting myself into something I definitely was never expecting.  My friends thought it would be funny to sign me up for the pie eating contest at the BBQ.  It ended up being a complete mess (pie all over my face, clothes, etc.) but it was a lot of fun!  My friend Ashley and I competed, but we were no competition compared to some of the contestants.

I don’t have any huge plans for the summer, just working in the MNSU admissions office and the Mankato Chiropractic Center.  Hopefully, I’ll get lots of time to relax and soak up the sun this summer!  Study hard and good luck with all of your finals!

Summer Farewell from Jake

Hey Bloggers!

Well, this is it. The last time I get to bore you all with my horribly entertaining life.  I had one final today another one Friday. I also have a public speech forum for a class in which I am the moderator, meaning I get to introduce the people who are actually giving speeches.  But seeing that this replaces the final in that class, no complaints will be heard from me!

The other day there was an event outside, where they served dinner and had things to do.  A friend and I went through the blow up obstacle course a few times, at the price of a few nice floor-burn like injuries. I’ve had a lot of fun the past year, but I’m ready to get home for a while.  Having said that, I am not dreading coming back for next year at all. There are more memories and, friends to be made! Have a good summer everyone!!!

Smartphone Blues: Jake's Blog

(For 4/16/2012)

Hello Everyone,

Only three weeks left. Three weeks left. I can do this. The Twins just started their season, so that means summer is near. The weather is taunting more and more these days, but finals are looming. Thankfully the homework load is minimal at this point, so I can adequately prepare for the finals. I have a business law paper on the United States judicial branch and how it compares to another countries due Wednesday, but that is the toughest thing I can see until finals.

I was recently offered a position in the Admissions Office for next year, which means I get to spend more time with the people that I work with for student ambassadors. I am extremely excited about this opportunity because I love giving tours and showing high school kids what our university has to offer.  In other news, I recently put my phone through the wash.  So after years, I decided it was time to upgrade to a smartphone! Hopefully I can take a little bit better care of this one!
Until next time,

Jake

Orientation is Around the Corner: Kayla's Blog

Hey Bloggers,
I cannot believe it is already April, only one more month left in the semester! I am very excited for the summer, I will be working with the summer Orientation program here at MSU and get to meet all of the new incoming students and help them register for classes. As part of the Orientation team, I traveled to Omaha, Nebraska last weekend for a leadership conference. I was able to meet a bunch of orientation groups from colleges and universities within the Midwest. It was great to see what other groups do for their orientation sessions as well as receive assistance with my resume and professional skill development. This weekend, I am going home for Easter to see my family. I have not seen them since the beginning of March so it will be fun to relax and spend time with them!

Rock Climbing with Cristen: Cristen's Blog

Hey Bloggers!

I finally feel like we’re at the last stretch of the school year and I couldn’t be more excited!  It’s so hard to focus though when you know summer is only a few weeks away and the weather is gorgeous.  This past week I went to the new rock wall on campus with my boot camp.  It was such a blast!  I climbed every side of the wall.  Some climbs were pretty difficult, but I made it to the top on every one.  Rock climbing is one of my favorite activities and I am so excited for them to start building the inside rock wall which is going to have 12 ropes!  I think I’m also going to sign up for the rock climbing class being offered next semester.

Next week I am taking one of the most important tests of my college career, the GRE.  I’m a little afraid for it, considering it has a big impact on me getting in to graduate school.  However, I’ve been studying and I’m ready to give it a try!  I’ll let you all know about it goes!  Have a great week.

Let the Good Times Roll: Jeni's Blog

Hey Everybody!
This week has been crazy busy so far! My roommates both celebrated their birthdays, so there was lots of eating out and celebrating! It was nice to get together with all of our friends but it also didn’t leave much time for studying and schoolwork! Other than lots of celebrating I have been busy preparing for my interview in the admissions office. Even though I already work in the office I have to be rehired to work there again next year. I have been busy preparing a presentation and debating on what to wear for my interview!
I have also been making time to enjoy the nice weather! Sometimes it’s hard to get outside when there is so much to do but I like to make time to go on walks with Kayla and some other friends. As always look for me when you come into the office! J That’s all for now!

Jake's Blog: Sign of Good Things to Come

Hello Bloggers,

This summer weather is making it extra hard to concentrate on school.  I went home last weekend and hung out at my friend’s house on a lake, and actually go a little sunburnt!  Sign of good things to come this summer!  That being said, I need to bear down and really focus on finishing the year well.  I’m about to go take an economics test, I have a 6 minute speech to give on Tuesday, not to mention I just got a 4 page paper assigned in business law.  I also have an interview on Tuesday for a job in the admissions office for next year.

I’m going to Applebee’s tonight for a friend’s birthday, and since it is supposed to be close to 80 both days this weekend I’m hoping we can get out and play some sand volleyball again!  I get to go home next Thursday since I don’t have Friday class this semester. Hope you all have a good Easter!

Kayla's Good News

Hey Bloggers,

So how about this nice weather lately?! I have been taking advantage of it by going for a lot of walks, and lying outside and doing all of my reading for class. Last weekend my friends and I had a cookout and played bean bags while soaking up some sunshine!

Classes have not been very overwhelming, but I must admit that I am excited for it to be summer. I also have received some good news, I have been excepted into the Dental Hygiene program for fall 2012 semester; I finally get to start my program and will be graduating in two years!

Hello Bloggers,
We are over half way through the semester and time is flying by! Spring Break was an amazing time; I worked two days, worked the Admitted Open House, and just hung out with friends. I hope everyone had or is currently having an amazing spring break also!!
The semester is going so fast! My EMT Class is coming to the point to study for the State and National Exam. I started a new class a week ago call Horsemanship, which is a Horseback Riding class. It has been such a blast getting back into the saddle and enjoying riding around. This semester has been so amazing and fun.
I'm really getting excited for my cruise that is coming up here in May. I'm counting down the days for a nice long vacation and enjoying a nice warm place!
Well Good Luck in your guys test and rest of the school year, Ill check back and fill you in next week how everything is going.

Cristen's Honduras Adventure

Hey Bloggers!

I have SO much to fill you all in on from my spring break trip!  This year I went to Honduras for spring break on a medical brigade, and I went with Michigan State University.  This was definitely one of my favorite trips I have ever taken, and hands down, the most rewarding one.

My group and I (there were about 40 of us) all stayed at La Posada, which was an amazing compound on the side of a mountain.  This place had one of the best views I could ever ask for with the valley close by and the endless mountains reaching far out into the distance.  We even had hammocks to lie in on our porch to take in the breathtaking view!

The town that I was working in was called, La Cebita Sabana Grande.  It was only 60 miles away, but because of the rough roads and terrain, it took us about three hours to get to our community each day.  At our community we set up a clinic that we ran for three days.  All of the services and medicine that we provide to the patients were free.  All of the citizens really appreciated this because the average income for families in the town was about $5 a day, meaning that they normally could not afford these types of services.

We (the students) pretty much ran the show at the clinic.  We did patient intake where we would ask the patients what was wrong, ask for family histories, and then take their vitals.  This was a great experience to use my Spanish as well!  In consult, we got to assist the doctors with their exams, and we got to see all of the interesting cases that came through.  In the dental office, we got to assist with teeth extractions and fillings.  We also ran a pharmacy and a charla (Spanish for “chat”), where we taught the children how to brush their teeth.

I was extremely nervous at first because I was going with no one I knew to a country that I had heard was extremely dangerous, but I have never had such an amazing experience.  This trip really reassured me that studying medicine and Spanish is what I want to do.  It really opened my eyes to an entirely different part of the world I had never thought about before.  Now, all I can think about is when I get to go back.

And now I’m back at school, trying to get back into the swing of things.  I hope you all have an amazing week!

Hey Everybody!

Now that spring break is over it is time to get back to school work. This week I have a test in my analytical chemistry class and I have been spending a lot of hours studying for it. My friends and I get together and study a lot so hopefully I will do well on the exam on Wednesday. I have also been busy planning different events for the Student Ambassadors (our volunteer tour group). It has taken a little bit of extra time but I know it will all be worth it in the end.
Other than school and work I have been enjoying the nice weather! It is hard to stay inside and study all day when it is so nice outside. Kayla and I have gone on a couple of walks, which is a nice break from studying.
Well that’s all for now! I hope to see you all soon when you come down for a campus visit! J

Jake's Blog

Hello!

I hope you all are enjoying this weather as much as I am! I finally got to break out the shorts again this week, and loved it. The homework is starting to pick up and I can see a few tests on the horizon. As we’re nearing the last month of the semester (crazy right!), studying becomes even more important but seeing that we’re in the heat of March Madness, focusing on homework is becoming increasingly difficult. In addition to that, I’m heading up to Minneapolis next weekend to watch the high school basketball state championship games with some high school friends.  So much basketball!
I’m applying for a job in the admissions office next year, to hopefully make some extra cash during the school year since I can’t work at the golf course during the winter.  Hope you all have a good week, and get outside and enjoy the weather!

Later,
Jake
